ORIGINAL SIM PHOTOS
These pics show the sim as it was set up at the university. An interesting bit of history: my university contacts told me that they originally acquired the sim from Northwest Airlines, and the university's psychology department was using the sim to conduct human behavior assessments of flight crews, relating to stress associated with being cooped up in a small space with lots of activities going on. Well, the papers got published, and as a result, the university no longer had a use for the sim. Which is how we were able to acquire it.
The sim is a Cockpit Procedures Trainer, or CPT. There's no motion sensors or even displays outside the cockpit-- its purpose was to familiarize crews with cockpit procedures (such as checklists), rather than actual flying techniques. The sim is of a Boeing 727, the once-familiar "three holer" that was popular in the 60s, through 2003. Today, the 727 is still used as a passenger jet, but mainly outside of the USA, and also as a freight hauler for companies such as FedEx, UPS, and DHL.
