PROGRESS UP TO 11/6/2004

These pics show the continuing work on the exterior cockpit shell, windows, interior door, flight engineer's panel, cockpit seating and flight controls.

Here is a good view of the 3-way exterior screen setup, used for displaying scenery.  Each image is projected using an LCD projector.  The front and pilot's side views are rear-projection, but space constraints force us to front-project the co-pilot view. All of the exterior windows have been replaced with 1/4-inch Plexiglas.  The small "eyebrow" windows and ones farthest to either side were replaced with smoke-colored Plexiglas rather than clear. After 9/11, all airlines needed to replace their cockpit doors with a stronger, more secure version.  Another good EBay find allowed us to fit this pre-9/11 door without major modifications. Here's a shot of the interior of the new cockpit door. The lighting work on the flight engineer's panel is complete.  This whole panel is non-functional, we've dressed it up only for "eye candy" purposes. A close-up shot of some of the new annunciator lighting and such.
In digging around through the sim documentation, we ran across some flight engineer checklists.  These will soon be placed underneath the new Plexiglas cover on the small work surface. Here's a shot of one of the original cockpit seats.  As you can tell, it's pretty skanky, and finding a replacement will be challenging. Our cockpit seating solution was a concession to comfort at the expense of realism: we simply removed the seat and back portion of our desk chairs we were using temporarily, and fastened them to the original seat mechanism.  Not OEM, but workable and comfy! Here's a close-up of the seat mounting. These are 2 new additions!  Check out the new PFC flight yoke and rudder pedals.  Sa-weet! A close-up of the new rudder pedals.
We found it cheaper to buy a small home-theater receiver and speaker set, rather than a set of computer speakers.  Unbelievable! To close, here's a detail shot of the great job Donald did with the new flooring, and the metal step guard.  Awesome job.
